Adrifting - KenneyJam 2025
Known Bug: Once crafted, fuses are infinite and never need crafting again.
Keep your passenger alive by using your available power to fabrimake food, perform course corrections, and control the temperature while drifting through space awaiting rescue.
There are in-game tips for the few puzzle elements. It's about learning what you can ignore and for how long while working on other problems that appear. The idea is that through observation and some trial you can figure out how to survive the game. But if you are after some more spoilery type hints, read on.
General gameplay: The game is divided into cycles. Each cycle your amount of available power is reset. You win if your passenger survives 15 cycles. When you are out of power, or have nothing left to do for a cycle, click the End Cycle button. Click Start Cycle when you are ready to start the next cycle. If your passenger is alive, you will continue. If they are not, it's game over.
Click on the elements around the ship to open a menu of actions for that station. Most actions require power. An eye will appear above things you are able to interact with.
You will need to grow food by fabrimaking seeds, planting them, watering them, providing light, and then harvesting the crop once all that is done. The fresh food can be turned into NutriPaste to be fed to the passenger via the life support panel.
Your ship can drift off course. Access the helm and scan for the point you should be aiming at. Each tick requires power at the end of the cycle, so don't use all your power if you need to course adjust. You will continue to drift further off course if it isn't completely corrected, so adjusting onec when you need twice will make you drift back to where you were. X and Y are corrected at the same time, so one power will correct both directions once. The communications panel will tell you how far you need to adjust in each direction. Look for the flashing red light.
Temperatures can rise or fall to unsafe levels. Look for a slight change in lighting, and smoke from machines or frost from the passengers breath to know when the climate control needs adjusting.
Life support has many fuses attached to it that can blow at any time. If the screen is dead, run a diagnostic to see which fuse needs replacing, and fabrimake a new one.
The life support panel tells you how the food levels for the passenger are. The green panel means you have enough food. Blue means you have run out. Red means your passenger is starving. You can also see three lines to indicate fullness levels that disappear so you can tell when you will run out of food. You can have more than 3 food in the machine at a time.
You can craft a new battery to double your power per cycle. It takes one cycle to craft, then is installed empty.
